NEW CLASS APPLICATION
One of the ASDB’s primary functions is to develop and approve new starship designs from SFI members, a responsibility we take seriously.
Before a new class can be approved, it must meet specific criteria detailed in the Starship Design Manual, available here. We encourage you to review this document thoroughly before submitting your approval form. Understanding these guidelines will help streamline the approval process and ensure all relevant aspects are addressed.
SFI has two statuses for member-submitted starship classes: official and experimental.
Official Classes
Official classes are traditional designs submitted to the ASDB. Once the approval process is complete, these designs will be adopted by a STARFLEET chapter, which is a prerequisite for their approval.
For more information and to apply for this process, please use the official class application form available here.
We strongly encourage you to review the Starship Design Manual, also available here, before submitting your application.
Experimental Classes
Experimental Classes represent a new process for starship designs that still need the traditional ASDB approval, but do not require a chapter willing to adopt them. Once approved, these designs will be listed as experimental until a chapter chooses to adopt it, at which point they will be converted into official classes.
This new process allows members who enjoy designing starships and other Starfleet equipment to showcase their work without the need for chapter adoption.
For more information and to apply, please use the experimental class application form available here. We also strongly encourage you to review the Starship Design Manual, available here.
Before submitting your application, as these designs must still meet all other criteria except for chapter adoption.
